TANKERS are still being used to ease the situation after a sewage main burst at Seaclose yesterday (Monday).

Southern Water hopes to have the work finished by the morning.

A Southern Water spokesperson said this afternoon (Tuesday): "Specialist teams remain on-site close to the Premier Inn, Newport, as work continues in response to a burst sewage main.

"Tankers are being used to minimise any impact to the environment and prevent flooding to nearby properties.

"This is also helping to significantly reduce the use of our combined emergency overflow at The Quay.

“We understand the disruption this incident may be causing residents and businesses in the area and are working hard to resolve the issue as quickly as we can.

"We hope to have fully repaired the main by tomorrow morning.”

In the heavy rain over the last couple of days, Southern Water has discharged into the sea via its outfalls.
