The Isle of Wight Council's planning committee will decide on three important matters tonight (Tuesday).

Two applications for new housing in Gunville are on the agenda.

Submitted by DN Associates, the plans were first considered in August last year but thrown out due to inadequate access and significant adverse effects on the capacity of the local highway.

One set of plans is for 36 homes and the other, outline plans for 113, built on land off of Arthur Moody Drive and Forest Hills.

Council officers have recommended on balance, conditional permission be granted to the application, although councillors will make the final decision and have, when considering this development, previously gone against the officers' recommendation.

Another matter coming before the committee is the refurbishment of Ryde Esplanade's railway station, as part of the major transport interchange works taking place in Ryde.

The South Western Railway station for the Island Line service will be given a new look, but there is dispute over what should and shouldn't be included.

Officers are recommending the planning committee grant conditional permission subject to a construction environment management plan.

Another matter coming before the committee is plans for affordable housing in Calbourne.

Submitted by Vectis Housing, an Isle of Wight housing association, in October 2020, the plans propose the construction of 12 houses — 11 affordable — on Elm Lane.

There's been objections, revisions and discussions, and now Isle of Wight Council officers are recommending the application be refused.

The final decision on all these matters will be made by the authority’s planning committee at County Hall. The meeting starts at 4pm.
