A SUSPECTED drink-driver who crashed into two parked cars in Cowes was detained at the accident scene by members of the public after he tried to run off.

Police received multiple calls about the collision on Denmark Road at 1.04am this morning (Saturday).

A blue Mazda crashed into two parked vehicles and its airbags were deployed, say Isle of Wight Police.

"The driver tried to leave the scene and was detained by members of the public," said Sgt Radford, on the police's Facebook page.

"When officers arrived, the male driver was breathalysed and failed the test."

The driver was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and taken to Newport Police Station for a follow-up breath or blood alcohol test.
