Isle of Wight photographer Jamie Russell has won the public vote in a prestigious photography competition.

Jamie, who also runs the IW Met Service, snapped this amazing image of of a rainbow over Bembridge Lifeboat Station.

Since August, votes have been collected by the Royal Meteorological Society in its Weather Photographer of the Year competition.

The Shanklin forecaster and photographer was up against sunsets, winter, and a dam.

The overall winner, picked by judges, has been revealed as Christopher Ison, who captured a ginormous wave crashing against a lighthouse in Newhaven, during Storm Eunice.

The judges said they loved how it showed the power of nature, reminding us how small and insignificant and added the detail in the giant wave, with face-like structures penetrating from the water, gives it an almost mystical feel.

Although he lost out on the overall Weather Photographer of the Year 2022 title, it was Jamie's photo that topped the public vote.

His Departing Storm Over Bembridge Lifeboat Station image followed a chase of showers and storms.

He reached Bembridge as the final shower departed and, in a panic, waded into waist-deep water, fully dressed, just to compose this scene.
