THE Cowes Floating Bridge has returned to service — but only for this weekend.

The ferry service came back into operation at 2pm today (Saturday).

However, it will be undergoing a short period of maintenance on Monday to complete its current schedule of works.

Most of the planned works were completed on September 22, but it was not possible to complete the replacement of the worn noise mitigating ‘shoe’ on the western prow, an Isle of Wight Council spokesman said.

"As the new ‘shoe’ is required to minimise the amount of noise emanating from the prow impacting the slipway, it is essential this work is completed at the earliest opportunity," the spokesman added.

"This will take place between 8am and 2pm on Monday. During this period the replacement foot passenger launch will be in service."
