An electrical fault has led to the suspension of the Cowes and East Cowes Floating Bridge.

There is no word yet on when the chain ferry will be back in action.

It went out of service this afternoon (Wednesday), prompting the return of the smaller replacement launch.

School children were among those caught up in the changes.

The Isle of Wight Council said: "The launch will remain in operation for foot passengers and cyclists until the vessel can be returned to service, as swiftly as possible.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
