An Isle of Wight pub has revealed it is closing for the winter - but has confirmed its staff have been relocated and says it will reopen in the Spring.

The Sun Inn at Hulverstone, which is run by the Character Inns group, is described as 'a stunning 16th century thatched freehouse pub, set in beautiful countryside, near Compton Beach.'

It boasts a beer garden and views of Tennyson Down.

Its owners say work will be carried out on site over the colder months - telling Islanders not to panic if diggers are spotted in the garden.

In a statement on social media, the team said: "It’s been an amazingly busy summer, sometimes under difficult circumstances and we’d like to express our thanks and gratitude to the entire team for their dedication, commitment and hard work - with a little humour in there as well.

"We’re delighted to say the entire team are being relocated to our sister pubs through the winter, so no job losses. They will be back here next Spring, to re-open for another busy season."

Closing its doors on Sunday, October 2, the pub has thanked its customers and promises a 'much improved Sun Inn' in 2023.

The Character Inns group also runs The Kings Head in Yarmouth, Bembridge's Crab and Lobster, The Caulkheads in Sandown, The Bugle in Yarmouth and Niton's The Buddle Inn, which all remain open over the winter.
