A 15-YEAR-OLD boy has appeared in court, accused of attempting to stab another child with a large kitchen knife.

The youth, who can't be identified due to his age, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Friday.

He is charged with attempted wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of a bladed article in a public place, and theft.

They all relate to an incident that took place on Thursday, September 15.

Leah Dillon, prosecuting, told the court he is alleged to have stolen £100 from the victim — a 16-year-old boy.

She said, when the victim confronted him over the stolen sum in a car park in a Lake car park, the defendant produced a large kitchen knife and tried to stab him.

The court heard the blade only pieced the victim's jacket, and was prevented from going any further by a mobile phone contained within his jacket pocket.

The defendant was granted conditional bail, and will next appear in court on October 12.
