A NEWPORT restaurant that opened earlier this year, specialising in Thai cuisine and English breakfasts, has announced it has permanently closed.

Top Of The Town Cafe, which opened its doors on March 25 on the site of the old Phil’s Diner, has closed.

Renovations to the front of the building took place shortly after, bringing back the old name to Newport High Street, but giving the cafe a new identity.

During the day, the eatery was a conventional cafe, and on Friday and Saturday nights it served authentic Thai cuisine.

Island food reviewers Matt and Cat visited Top Of The Town in June, describing the venue as a ‘decent place that we’d recommend’.

A spokesperson for Top Of The Town posted on Facebook: “We would like to thank those customers who supported us while we were open. Thank you.”
