A RECOVERING heroin addict who targeted a Newport supermarket twice and stole household items and stationery, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates.

Angie Holroyd, of Westhill Drive, Shanklin, admitted two charges of shoplifting at Asda, Newport.

On June 24, the jobless mum-of-two went into the store that evening, selected items from the outdoor and homeware aisle — then followed it up by targeting the same store on July 8, said Ann Smout, prosecuting, at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court.

The 44-year-old was caught on CCTV and none of the items were paid for or recovered.

Mrs Smout said there was clearly some planning involved.

For Holroyd, Jim Osborne said his client is a heroin addict, with Crohn's disease, and that her illnesses led to the loss of her house and her forced to hand her children to their father while she tried to get off the class A drug.

Magistrates fined Holroyd £120 and ordered her to pay a £48 surcharge.

Because the items taken were of a value unknown, magistrates chose not to order Holroyd to pay Asda compensation.
