A GoFundMe page has been set up to support the Isle of Wight family of a man killed in a crash in Shalfleet, in July.

Earlier this month, tributes were paid to 'devoted dad' and 'incredibly talented carpenter', Matej Gruber, from Newport.

The 45-year-old suffered serious injuries and died in the incident on the A3054, Ningwood Hill, on Saturday, July 23.

Now, his best friend, Noah Weinstein, has set up a donations page, to help support Matej's partner Trudy and the couple's daughter.

Noah said: "I want to raise enough to cover funeral costs and hopefully have enough left over to put a little aside for them to use as they please."

He added: "Please seriously consider donating, as they are going through enough stress right now, and I don't want financial hardship to be added to the mix. Every little bit helps."

Noah, who lives in America, says Matej was more like family than best friend. They met while travelling and it continued to be a vital part of their friendship.

The families stayed close, and travelled across the Atlantic to see each other.

Matej was due to visit Noah this month.

Launching the appeal, which has raised more than $7,000, Noah and his brother, Jason, have also pledged to add cash themselves.
