Isle of Wight weather expert, Jamie Russell, has revealed how much rain fell on the Island last night (Wednesday), leading to flash flooding.

Thundery storms arrived at around 5pm, after three days of weather warnings from the Met Office and the IW Met Service.

The impact was widely felt, closing roads and forming pools of water across parts of the Isle of Wight.

Arreton and Ventnor were among those to be badly hit by the deluge...

Meanwhile, it was Shanklin that actually saw the most rain, according to data shared by the IW Met Service.

The town got 47.8mm yesterday (August 17).

Close behind were Whiteley Bank (46.3mm) and Newchurch (41.4mm).

Bonchurch (39.8mm) and Godshill (32.8mm) were close behind.

Fields are so dry, due to the heatwave and drought, they are unable to soak up the rain quickly enough.

It led scenes of brown muddy water pouring onto the main road through Arreton.

Meanwhile, a flood alert has been issued.
