BILLED as a boutique mini festival, Jack Up Summer Party was a smaller affair this year but proved perfectly formed.

The focus was on tribute acts and there were outstanding performances, in particular by Rob Lamberti as George Michael.

From the live final of Stars in Their Eyes, to being hired by George Michael himself to promote his 25Live album, Lamberti's career has seen him perform to packed out venues such as the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton.

Also impressive was Simon Howard as Tom Jones, from the big voice to the familiar stage movements — this was a good impersonation.

All the hits flowed across the two-day event, in homage to Meatloaf (the fabulous local act Dead Ringer), Madonna, Jersey Boys, Simply Red, Go West, Spandau Ballet and Duran Duran.

Headlining the Saturday was the ever-popular Ska'd For Life, who got the crowd on their feet.

Set at the picturesque off-the-beaten-track Retro Staycations, it was a get-away-from-it-all weekend of fun, sun and music.

The event was organised by Sarah Moss and Alex Dyke, the team behind Jack Up Events.

Next up is The Wurzels on the Farm, at the same venue, on September 3.
