YARMOUTH held its 110th Carnival Week celebrations last week (August 7–14), entertaining visitors to the West Wight town with eye-catching costumes and amusing fun.

Under the beautiful blue sky, a fun run, competitive field sports and decorated dinghies got the Carnival Week got underway – Matt Ward coming in as the overall winner of the fun run.

Susie Sheldon, the Isle of Wight's Lord Lieutenant, presented Yarmouth Fire Brigade’s Mark Donaldson, Richard White and Mark Saunders with Queen’s Platinum Jubilee medals.

Across the week, loads of competitions, including crabbing, three-legged races, sandcastle building, window spotting, golf on the green and egg and spoon races, kept carnival-goers entertained.

Sailor Ted in The Square donated teddy bear prizes for the carnival’s teddy bears’ picnic, held at The Deacons.

West Wight Alpacas and Llamas brought in the crowds to The Green.

Pirates on the Pier encouraged visitors to bring their fancy dress, as Yarmouth lifeboat made an appearance, with treasure to be found too.

On Saturday (August 13), there was a good turnout of classic cars from Island car clubs, with the carnival parade through the town in the afternoon.
