TRADITION was adhered to at the 169th Shanklin Regatta, which took place on the golden sands last Wednesday.

As in the previous decades, there was a beauty queen competition and hotly-contested shore sports and races.

The searing heat didn't deter people from the tug-of-war, and there was plenty for all ages to get involved with.

The beauty queen contest was won by Millie Atkinson, with Rebecca Selby in second place and Holly Sergent third.

Chairperson Lyn Fleming would like to thank everyone involved with the regatta, especially the rowing club's Ian and his daughter, Jane, and crew for all their hard work.

She said: "Watch this space for next year's 170th Shanklin Regatta!"
