A PLEA has gone out from the Isle of Wight Council, urging people not to attempt the low-tide fort walk.

The Safety Advisory Group advise that people do not walk to St Helens seafort from the beaches of Bembridge and St Helens this year.

As in the last few years, the council will be control parking and access at Duver Road, St Helens, to ensure parking along the narrow road does not block access for residents and emergency vehicles.

A spokesperson for the group said: “The fort walk is an informal event with no organiser and anyone choosing to do the walk does so at their own risk.

“In previous years we have asked people not to attempt the walk and people have respected that.

“Please do not put yourselves, volunteers and emergency services at risk.

"We are grateful to those people who choose not to take part, but to anyone who is thinking about undertaking the walk our advice to them is please stay away and enjoy one of the many safer beaches on the Island instead.

“it will also be another hot weekend and if anyone is out and about please follow the advice to stay hydrated, safe and well.”
