A MAN has been jailed after he ignored probation requests and failed to comply with the requirements of his suspended sentence order.

Wayne Paulson, 29, of Staplers Road, Newport, was sent to prison for 15 weeks.

His 15-week sentence was originally suspended for a year, in March, but he was warned if he didn't comply, he would find himself behind bars.

Yesterday (Friday), he appeared in front of Isle of Wight magistrates' and his solicitor, Jim Osborne, said he had been given no instructions from Paulson except that he "just wants to go away".

His original offences were threatening to stab police officers and anyone who approached him on November 18.

Officers, in full body armour, were deployed to Paulson's flat.

They were met by Paulson, holding a kitchen knife, pointed at one of the officers.

Paulson was eventually persuaded to leave the flat peacefully, but out in the street, he swore and insulted officers.

He admitted two charges of using threatening, abusive and insulting words and/or behaviour and sending a malicious communication.

Paulson subsequently breached a probation order, for a malicious communication last year.

Probation assessed Paulson as a high risk of causing serious harm.

Magistrates warned him at the time, if he continued to ignore probation requests he would go to prison.
