A SHANKLIN man has admitted saying in a phone message he had been convicted twice of attempted murder, knew where the man lived and was going to kill him and his family.

David Sanders, 45, of The Rogers, originally denied sending Michael Pilbeam a voicemail, conveying a threatening message for the purpose of causing distress or anxiety, in Ryde, on May 12, when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court.

He chose to have a trial heard by Island magistrates, rather than a jury at the crown court, and was bailed to reappear at the same venue on August 4.

However, he changed his plea to that of guilty.

After hearing the evidence, that there was provocation received, magistrates gave Sanders a 12-month conditional discharge.

He must pay costs of £200 and a £20 surcharge.
