AS THE risk of wildfires in some areas of the Isle of Wight was upgraded to ‘extremely high’ yesterday (Monday, August 8), the Island prepares for another heatwave from today (Tuesday, August 9).

According to Jamie Russell at the IW Met Service, today will be a sunny, hot day, with clear skies and cooling sea breezes.

The temperature is expected to reach as high as 27–29°C as a level five heat alert comes into force.

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 10

On Wednesday, we can expect another hot and sunny day, with clear skies throughout.

Temperatures are expected to be slightly higher in a light easterly breeze, around 29–31°C, with onshore coastal breezes developing in the afternoon.

THURSDAY, AUGUST 11

Another sunny and very hot day is predicted for Thursday, with clear skies once again across the Island.

With a light easterly breeze, we can expect to see temperatures as high as 31–33°C.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 12

The temperature is set to continue to rise on Friday, reaching highs of 32–34°C.

Onshore sea breezes will keep it cooler around the coasts, says IW Met Service.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 13

Over the weekend, the IW Met Service forecasts more very hot temperatures in light winds, although into next week there are hints of a breakdown and perhaps even some rain.

The wildfire risk is now at its highest level in some parts of the Island, especially along the south and west coast where sea breezes can increase the risk through the daylight hours.

South and west facing slopes will have the highest overall risk but it wont be exclusive to these areas.
