CLUBS and Classes from across the Solent will celebrate The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in Cowes at the weekend.

The Princess Royal will carry out a fleet and motor past review, and Cowes Week guardship, HMS Severn, will also be involved.

A committee of sailing organisations, class associations and clubs from across the Solent region have organised the event for Saturday.

It will feature a gathering of Dunkirk little ships, historic yachts, sail training ships and more than 400 boats from yacht clubs and organisations in the Solent.

Wetwheels is the designated charity for the day.

Its vessels will carry The Princess Royal around the moored yachts fleet review and will lead the motor past.

In lieu of an entry fee, organisers are asking people to make a donation to the charity via its official JustGiving page at www.justgiving.com

On land, the Parade and the Green will be the best spots to view the various activities.

The schedule is as follows:

  • 8.30am to 10.30am — breakfast at the RYS.
  • During the morning, there will be J70 and Sonar fleet racing, and many vessels dressed overall.
  • 12.40pm to 2.35pm — fleet review and motor past.
  • 1.40pm — dayboat passage races to home ports starting from the RYS Line.
  • 2pm to 2.10pm — Spitfire display over the Solent, north of the breakwater.
  • 3pm until late — music at Cowes Yacht Haven (free access for all).

All boats, from RIBs to sailing and motor vessels, can register with their own yacht club to be part of the official programme.
