Southern Water Services
Hello,
This week we’ve written to all our household customers in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight about the introduction of a Temporary Use Ban starting today, August 5, 2022.
We know this ‘hosepipe ban’ is likely to have an impact on you, particularly during the warm weather and the school holidays.
We haven’t taken the decision lightly, but with record high temperatures and very limited rainfall it’s really important that we act now to protect our rivers and water sources.
So that we protect the health of our precious chalk streams, we’re asking you to only use the water that you need and not use your hosepipe for things like watering plants, cleaning cars or driveways, or filling up paddling pools.
Running your hosepipe for an hour uses more water than an average person does in a week, so it really makes a difference.
I would like to thank all our customers for supporting these restrictions and for doing your bit to protect your local rivers. You can find all the advice and guidance, and some tips for reusing shower water and other water saving ideas, on our website.

Southern Water chief customer officer
