A NEWPORT man accused of making racist remarks at a kebab house in his home town will stand trial later this year.

Drew Whittaker, of Carisbrooke Road, appeared before Isle of Wight magistrates on Tuesday (August 2).

The 19-year-old denied racially aggravated harassment, in Newport, on May 19.

Prosecutor, Liz Miller, told the court the alleged victim was a staff member at fast food restaurant Ephesus Pizza and Grill, off Newport High Street.

Barry Arnett, defending, said Mr Whittaker denied making any racist comments whatsoever.

He said he accepted being abusive, but not racist.

Mr Whittaker saw his case adjourned for a trial on October 12 at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court.

He was granted conditional bail.
