THE team over at Isle of Wight Parrot Rescue have announced they will be turning their hands to helping wild birds.

It follows an announcement last week that Kay Ounsworth — founder of IW Wild Bird Rehabilitation — would be hanging up her hat.

Kay — so dedicated to helping rehabilitate orphaned, sick and injured wild birds — made the difficult decision to close permanently due to ill-health.

She forged a close working relationship with many vets on the Island over the years, and was able to provide all of the on-going aftercare, from cleaning and healing wounds to splinting and stabilizing fractures.

"After much deliberation, we have decided we will start helping out with wild birds," said a spokesperson for Isle of Wight Parrot Rescue.

"We will only specialise in corvids — the likes of jackdaws, rooks, ravens and magpies.

"This is done with Kay's help and support, for which we are very grateful.

"We are even more desperate for help with getting the pavilion to us, taking it down and putting it up.

"We will need the extra work space it's going to bring us.

"Please be patient with us. We won't be able to do everything, all at once, but we will try to do as much as possible.

"We will have an account at Pets With Hart in Newport if anyone would like to make donations.

"Once again, thank you so much to Kay for your support with this, and to everyone who has supported us over the past five years."

The non-profit organisation will only be taking in corvids and small/baby birds, but once the team has operations up and running, it will be open to all birds.
