BEACH regattas are back on the Isle of Wight this year.

Shanklin Regatta is on Thursday, August 11, and it will be the town's 169th Regatta!

There will be shore sports for children on the sand from 1.30pm.

The Regatta Queen, for women aged over 16, will be judged from 3pm, as will the Knobbly Knees competition.

There will be evening entertainment from 7pm and fireworks at 9.30pm.

Local stalls will be selling Pimm's, candy floss, BBQ food, ice creams and popcorn.

Over the weekend of August 13/14, Sandown Regatta returns, organised by Sandown Carnival for the first time.

The team will combine tradition with new attractions for a relaunch of the 165-year-old event.

Saturday features sea and shoreside fun for everyone plus a free music event at Browns Golf Course.

A fun packed Sunday will include market stalls lining Sandown Esplanade, magic shows and stage performances.

Don't miss the beach games and tug-of-war.

The weekend will finish with fireworks at 9.30pm on Sunday.

In Seaview, the traditional annual regatta is on August 16, 17 and 18.

Information can be found on the regatta's Facebook page and includes sailing races, children's sports, swimming and rowing races, diving competitions and the famous greasy pole!

Fireworks off Seaview seafront will close the event at 9.35pm on the Thursday.
