WET Leg’s eponymous debut album has been nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize.

The Isle of Wight band join other nominees including Self Esteem, Little Simz, Harry Styles and Joy Crookes.

The Mercury Prize nominees features a shortlist made up of 12 British albums voted on by a panel of judges.

Previous winners include Wolf Alice, Arlo Parks and Arctic Monkeys — all of whom won the £25,000 reward and a trophy.

In 2002, Isle of Wight band The Bees were nominated for their album Sunshine Hit Me.

This year’s shortlist was announced by BBC DJ Nemone on Radio 6 Music this morning (Tuesday.)

The award ceremony will take place at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith on Thursday, September 8.
