FIREFIGHTERS were called to a fire on the edge of the cliffs at Compton this evening (Thursday, July 21).
Emergency services were called by concerned onlookers after a small group of people set a campfire near the cliff edge.
Fire crews put out the fire, damped down the area and discussed the risks with those responsible.
Friends of Freshwater Fire Station said: "Please do not light fires outdoors during these hot, dry conditions.
"It would take just a few sparks and a slight breeze, and fire would spread rapidly taking land, property, wildlife and potentially even human life with it.
"Quite simply, please do not light fires outdoors."
