The water main has burst down a small unnamed road opposite the entrance to Parkhurst Forest on Forest Road.

Southern Water teams arrived on the scene at 6.28pm.

A spokesperson said: "Your water supply should return to normal within three hours.

"You may notice some discolouration or low pressure at first; this is completely normal when there's been a disruption to the supply and is only temporary.

"Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused."

UPDATE 8.45pm - Water is still billowing into the air high above Forest Road, over two hours since the burst.

UPDATE on Friday AM: Supplies are back to normal and the burst has been fixed.
