A RYDE man found slumped behind the wheel has been banned from driving for three years.
Matthew Oxley, 35, of Green Street, had admitted two counts of failing to provide a specimen for analysis at a previous court hearing, and went back to the magistrates' court for sentencing.
Oxley had been found slumped in the driver's seat of his car, in York Avenue, East Cowes, at around 3pm on February 27.
A member of public noticed his engine running and, to prevent him from driving, took his keys away and called the police.
When the police arrived, they assessed Oxley as unfit to drive.
He co-operated in a roadside drug test, which revealed he was positive for cocaine.
He was arrested but while in custody, performed badly in a drug impairment test, and when asked to provide a sample of blood for analysis, he refused, without providing any medical reason.
He was disqualified from driving for three years, and was given a 12-month community order with 20 rehabilitation days.
He must pay a £80 fine with £170 costs.
