Kicking the carnival season off with a bang is Newport Carnival, celebrating its 100th birthday at the Main Carnival procession next Saturday (July 23).

There will be many events throughout the day, all around Newport, including the world-famous Titan the Robot, as seen on this year’s Britain’s Got Talent.

Organisers are promising that Newport Main Carnival will be the biggest Newport has seen in decades, if not ever, with entertainment including Shademakers, who performed at the Queen’s Jubilee Pageant, and the amazing Ventnor Comic Jazz Band.

Judging will take place at 6pm, and the main procession will set off at 7pm.

The pubs, including Bargeman’s Rest in Newport, The Spyglass Inn in Ventnor, The Steamer Inn in Shanklin and Dairyman’s Daughter in Arreton, are donating first, second and third place cash prizes for The Spirit of the Carnival.
