MOTORISTS are advised to find an alternative route following a two-vehicle crash on the Godshill to Whitwell road.

Police have closed the road.

Sgt Radford said: "Officers are currently attending a road traffic incident on Whitwell Road, Godshill.

"Reports of a two-vehicle RTI between a car and a van - persons are trapped.

"The road is currently closed. Please find an alternative route."

UPDATE: 

Among those called to the scene were two fire crews.

They have since stood down, and two casualties are now with the ambulance service.

The crash happened near the Beacon View Stables. 

Police remain at the scene, and are waiting for the car to be recovered, and for glass to be cleared from the road. 

UPDATE: 

A spokesperson for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: "Two fire engines were called to Beacon Alley, near the junction with Meryl Road, at 3.36pm today.

"We were called by police to assist following a crash involving one car on its side in the road.

"Crews from Newport and Ryde stabilised the vehicle and assisted two people out of the car. 

"The crews made the scene safe and stood down at 4.19pm."
