There has been another Covid-19 death in hospital on the Isle of Wight, according to the latest (now weekly) government update.

A patient died at St Mary's Hospital on July 1, according to data published today (Thursday) bringing the total number of hospital deaths to 262 since March 2020.

There have been no new deaths in the Island's community settings, meanwhile, which incorporates care homes, hospices and private homes.

Meanwhile the rate of new cases appears to be higher on the Isle of Wight than any other place in England, according to the official interactive 'heat map', which shows the seven day rolling average.

The map has been less reliable since free lateral flow tests were withdrawn, however, only the Isle of Wight and Midlothian are currently purple - showing a seven day rate, per 100,000 people, of 400-799 cases.

In the seven days to July 1, the Isle of Wight's rate was 435.7.

Last week, advice was issued by the Isle of Wight Council after a six-fold rise in new Covid-19 cases here.
