A woman has been rescued from a smoke-logged home in Freshwater, by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue crews.

Teams from Freshwater and Newport were called to Guyers Road, at around 9pm on Wednesday night.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus helped the woman out and into the care of paramedics, where she received emergency care, after a kitchen fire.

They wore breathing apparatus and used a hose reel jet to put the fire out.

A ventilation fan was used to clear smoke.

Neighbours had raised the alarm, after hearing smoke alarms.

Freshwater firefighters said, in a post on Facebook, a pan had been left on the hob and the elderly householder had fallen asleep.

They remained on the scene until just after 10pm.
