POLICE have made an arrest after a teenage man's face was slashed with glass beside a pub in Ryde.

Officers were called to Union Street just before midnight last night (Friday) following a report of a serious asssault in the alleyway between Yelfs Hotel and the Blacksheep Bar, which links with Church Lane.

"A 19-year-old Ryde man was slashed in the face with a piece of glass. This has caused a large wound to their cheek and significant bleeding," said a Hampshire Constabulary spokesman.

The victim was taken to St Mary's Hospital, Newport, where he was treated for a four-inch facial wound.

A 28-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of inflicting grievous bodily harm. 

Detectives investigating the assault are appealing for information from the public.
