During the operation, crews used three hosereels, six breathing apparatus and ventilation fans were used.

Firefighters, operating from Clarence Road, were hampered by parked cars over hydrants.

Thermal imaging was used to locate any further hotspots in a compressor room, before they handed control to the site maintenance team.

The incident was concluded at 1.09am.

An Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Please can we ask drivers to be aware of fire hydrants when parking and to try to leave them clear so as we can access water in an emergency.

"They are painted yellow and usually have a yellow curb stone nearby, with a yellow 'H' plate on a wall or post."
