A 33-year-old man was stabbed numerous times and his body dumped in the shower of a flat in Ryde, a murder trial was told this week.

The jury was told gruesome details of how Scott Cooper was allegedly killed by Piers Brazier and left in a huge pool of blood.

The trial is expected to last for a month at the Isle of Wight Crown Court, and the County Press is providing live updates.

Isle of Wight County Press: The scene in Ryde back in January.

Piers Carl Brazier is accused of killing 33-year-old Scott Edward Cooper, at an address on George Street in Ryde.

Mr Cooper's body was found on January 4.

On Tuesday, a preliminary hearing took place at the crown court, and on Wednesday, a jury was assembled.

Adam Feest QC, prosecuting, opened the case on Wednesday morning.

He went through an electronic presentation of evidence with the jury, containing CCTV footage, call logs, audio recordings, maps and pictures all woven together.

Mr Feest said police had attended the address on George Street at around lunch time on the day in question, after a witness reported seeing a dead body in Mr Brazier's flat, lying on the floor.

Police discovered the body of Mr Cooper. He had been stabbed multiple times, including to the face and neck.

Mr Feest provided members of the jury with a timeline of events leading to Mr Brazier's arrest.

The court heard the last time Mr Cooper had been seen alive on camera was at 11.04pm.

The witness who reported the body — Mr Brazier's ex-girlfriend — had spoken to the accused on the phone, and he tearfully asked her to come and see him one last time.

He told her all would become clear when she got there, because there was no hiding what had happened.

The witness recalled Mr Brazier not making much sense, and stating repeatedly: "It was him or me".

Mr Feest said the witness saw someone lying on the floor, and when she noticed a coat had been placed over the face, and took note of the "massive pool of blood", it became clear it wasn't a joke.

Following a series of calls to the police, officers attended the address at 2.50am and spoke to Mr Brazier.

Mr Feest said they were acting on information that there had been a domestic complaint, and not looking for a body at this stage, they did not look behind the closed shower curtain

The court heard police returned at 12.48pm in response to a series of further calls, and soon discovered the body of Mr Cooper, upside down in a shower cubicle.

As a result, Mr Brazier was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Mr Feest said it was clear the attack was savage, determined and sustained, and the attacker intended to kill Mr Cooper.

Mr Brazier told police he had left the flat to go and get drugs, and when he returned, Mr Cooper's body was in the shower.

He denied stabbing Mr Cooper or having any physical altercation with him.

Mr Feest said Mr Brazier was now going to say that he was present when Mr Cooper was killed, and saw another male do it.

He said Mr Brazier claimed the reason he had not said before was because he had been threatened by this other male.

The trial continues.
