RUPERT the donkey has returned to the Isle of Wight today (Monday, June 27) after making a strong recovery from serious colic at Liphook Equine Hospital.
He has enjoyed a weekend of ‘solid’ food, which his digestive system has handled perfectly, the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary said.
The Liphook team said Rupert was safe to travel home, and the Donkey Sanctuary team went to collect him this afternoon.
Wightlink provided Rupert with a free crossing back over the Solent, so the Sanctuary did not repeat any of the traumas that accompanied the journey to the mainland last week.

“The collective spirit, the kindness and the determination to succeed were just amazing.
“When Rupert is home, he will certainly be thanking some very specific people for their huge efforts on his behalf.
“Thank you to the whole Wightlink team for their support.”
