A MAN crashed his BMW into the Racecourse Roundabout while over the drug drive limit.

Deverill Hudson, 48, of St John's Wood Road, Ryde, admitted drug driving with cocaine in his system when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Liz Miller, prosecuting, said Hudson had been driving towards Newport when he said he was "pushed off the road" by a tipper truck which suddenly changed lanes.

Police were called to the incident to find Hudson's BMW 3-series crashed into a tree on the roundabout and the airbags deployed.

Hudson wasn't there but had left the keys in the car.

Police phoned him to find he had arranged recovery of his vehicle and had gone to work with a friend who had been driving behind him.

Hudson returned to the scene to be tested for alcohol and drugs, and was over the limit for cocaine.

Henry Farley, for Hudson, said it was Saturday morning and Hudson had had some cocaine the previous Wednesday, so was unaware he would still have it in his system.

He said Hudson was a hard-working dryliner in a long-term relationship and was full of shame and remorse.

He was disqualified from driving for 12 months. He must pay a £530 fine, £85 costs and a £55 surcharge.
