A PAEDOPHILE has breached the terms of his Sex Offenders' Register requirement for the second time — by failing to register a new bank card with the authorities.

Raymond Johnson, of High Street, Sandown, admitted the offence at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Friday.

He left the court £592 poorer after being fined, and ordered to pay costs and a surcharge.

Johnson, 74, was caught with hundreds of indecent images of children being sexually abused — including some of the most extreme kind and children as young as one year old.

In May 2021 he was spared jail for his offending but was placed on the register, with conditions.

At first he breached the conditions by failing to tell police when he moved house, and was fined £30.

Magistrates said he would face a tougher penalty for his second breach, and gave him a heavier financial penalty.

They heard from his solicitor, Henry Farley, who said Johnson was "sprightly" for his age and he and his wife both worked as HGV drivers.

Mr Farley said Johnson had handed in his Barclays card to police during routine checks but hadn't realised he should have previously informed them he had a new card.

He said it was a "genuine oversight" and he wouldn't have voluntarily handed it to police if he had been trying to hide it.
