A CASUALTY injured themselves on rocks between Priory Bay and Seagrove Bay and had to be rescued by crew from Bembridge RNLI's Inshore Lifeboat.

The RNLB Norman Harvey was launched yesterday evening (Wednesday) to assist in the evacuation of a the woman at 6.30pm at the request of Solent Coastguard.

The casualty, with an injured hip, was stretchered by Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team to a waiting ambulance.

It proved a busy night for the crew, who were called out again in the middle of the night at 12.20am.

The All-Weather Lifeboat was launched to assist a 20ft sailing boat that was in difficulty without an engine in the middle of the shipping channel east of North Sturbridge buoy.

There were two crew onboard without power and making no progress under sail. The urgency was that there was a 200m car carrier (Glovis Superior) travelling at 16 knots outbound from Southampton in the vicinity.

Conditions were pretty benign so it did not take long for the crew to reach the sailing boat and identify them to the Glovis Superior.

It was decided to tow her into Portsmouth, where she was berthed safely in Gosport Marina.
