FROM The Charlatans in 2002 to Duran Duran in 2021 - there are hundreds of acts to reminisce over from the Isle of Wight Festival's 20 year recent history.

As fans prepare to glitter up and dance at Seaclose once again, for the Isle of Wight Festival 2022 on Thursday through to Sunday, we asked County Press staff for their best memories.

Of course, many memories are hazy, some best forgotten and a few are best left at the gates! But we're talking best acts. Who, out of all the many singers and bands, have left an imprint on our hearts?

If you disagree with our personal choices, comment below on what YOUR favourite festival moment was.

Just for fun.... here goes...

Faithless

CP editor Alan Marriott's top choice was Faithless playing their top hit Insomnia in 2005.

He said: "The joy of discovering a band I knew nothing about but have loved ever since."

The band came back in 2016 and here's a video from that later performance.

Bruce Springsteen

CP head of content Lori Little chose the encore of Bruce Springsteen's epic set in 2012.

She said: "He had been playing for more than three hours which was unusual in itself but it was clear he didn't want to leave the stage. The encore just went on and on, through the fireworks, and he just didn't seem to want the night to end.

"It was infectious, everyone was up dancing, and the atmosphere was incredible. He showed us why he's The Boss!"

Queen and Adam Lambert

CP community content editor Kate Young chose Queen and Adam Lambert from 2016, specifically the haunting Who Wants to Live Forever.

Kate loved Status Quo in the Big Top and The Police in 2008 but it was Queen who blew her away. We all miss Freddie, but Queen struck gold when they found Adam Lambert as this video shows.

Here's Kate's son Matthew in his David Bowie mask.

The Cult

Photographer Paul Blackley has worked in the photography pit of the IW Festival for many years and gets closer to the stars than most people.

However his most abiding memory is all about a moment with friends in the Big Top, watching The Cult in 2011.

He said: "I have so many great memories, lots I can't share! The Who and catching up with a good friend who now lives in California, David Bowie obviously, Newton Faulkner was brilliant, had the whole crowd going mid afternoon.

"But meeting up with a group of really good friends I hadn't seen for ages and watching The Cult in The Big Top was pretty special."

Bryan Ferry and Roxy Music

CP sports editor Jon Moreno's rates Roxy Music in 2005 as his top choice - a class act.

He said: "I was a big fan of early Roxy Music and I never forgot this performance."

Fun

CP audience and content editor Lucy Morgan thought Fun lived up to their name when they played the Big Top in 2013.

She said: "I knew every word of the album so was very excited to see them. The atmosphere was incredible and everyone in the packed out Big Top knew as many words as me."
