A YELLOW weather warning from the Met Office remains in force, with strong winds expected to whip up some big waves along the Isle of Wight coastline.

East to north-easterly winds will increase throughout today (Saturday), which will lead to increasingly large waves developing along eastern and southern coasts of the Island, according to Isle of Wight forecasters.

Coastal waves could reach heights of between six and eight feet at times, with occasional waves approaching ten feet, between Whitecliff Bay and Luccombe, and between four and six feet from Bonchurch to Niton, and from Seaview to Bembridge.

For surfers, this could be a very enjoyable day.

It will be cloudy this morning, with a continued risk of showers moving north — perhaps heavy and thundery.

The cloud should break to leave a brighter afternoon, with some sunny spells, but with a chance of isolated showers.

The maximum temperature today will be 22C.

This evening and overnight, slow moving heavy rain, with thundery downpours, will move up from the south again.

Although it will continue to be breezy, the winds are expected to ease by dawn tomorrow (Sunday), with a minimum temperature of 10C.
