A BRIDE has spoken out to warn others after she was assaulted by her nail technician when she complained about her pre-wedding manicure.

Abbey Maxwell was horrified after her nails were given a shoddy French manicure by Kim Tran of Hollywood Nails, on Carisbrooke Road, Newport.

Abbey, 25, said she ended up with bumpy and bubbly paintwork, was asked to pay more than the advertised price, and was then locked in the salon and assaulted when she questioned it.

The police were called, after the incident on March 23.

Police called after woman assaulted in Isle of Wight nail bar

A Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson said: "Police were informed of a dispute between a customer and a member of staff at the nail bar regarding payment and the quality of work carried out.

"It was reported that during this incident a woman in her 20s was grabbed and pushed.

"This incident has been investigated and a woman in her 40s was interviewed under caution for the offence of common assault.

"Following conclusion of the investigation, the woman in her 40s was dealt with by means of community resolution whereby she was required to pay compensation to the victim and write a letter of apology."

How the bride's wedding manicure went horribly wrong

Abbey said Ms Tran didn't listen to what she wanted, and despite being shown a photo showing an almond shape, she insisted on doing a French manicure with white tips.

Abbey said: "Once the tips were on, I said they really did not look nice and I still wanted nails like the picture. She put layer, after layer, after layer of polish on — putting it on unevenly to try hid the white tips.

"They were so bumpy. I told her I could see lots of bubbles and she said she couldn't see them. I asked another customer to look and they agreed there were bumps and bubbles."

Abbey said Ms Tran locked the salon door and held her hand, grabbed and pushed her, and wouldn't let her leave until she paid £30 — more than was advertised and money Abbey claims was grabbed from her.

Ms Tran denies overcharging, however she told the County Press she was "very sorry for what happened."

Ms Tran said Abbey at first only offered £10, so she shut the salon door because she feared she would leave without paying.

Ms Tran said she had witnesses who said there was nothing wrong with the nails.

Bride says she has yet to receive an apology

Abbey, a security data analyst and part time cyber security student at the Open University, lives just outside of Glasgow and was preparing for her Isle of Wight wedding at The Royal Hotel in Ventnor.

She got married three days later, on March 26. Abbey chose The Royal as it is where her parents met, while working there. Abbey's dad's family live on the Island and she visits often.

She said: "I still can't get over what happened. I know it sounds silly, but I felt so scared and vulnerable being trapped there and treated that way.

"I regret repeatedly apologising to her and wish I was a bit braver and just pushed my way past and left.

"I hope now the police have spoken to her she changes her behaviour towards customers."

Abbey said her faith in humanity was restored when Nails by Chloe in St Thomas's Square fixed her nails.

Abbey said despite the police resolution, although she has had a refund, she has yet to receive a written apology.
