A MAN was found stabbed and naked in the road by police — but he ended up kicking off at St Mary's Hospital and spitting at a police officer.

Bruno Borges, 34, head chef at a hotel in Queens Road, Shanklin, where he also lives, was sentenced at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Friday.

He admitted a public order offence and assault of a police officer.

Liz Miller, prosecuting, said it was April 1 when Borges went for treatment at the hospital.

He was warned about his language and had to be moved away from other patients, then he spat at the police officer's body-worn camera.

His solicitor told the court police had found him in the road, naked and injured, after being stabbed in the hand.

He was upset as his girlfriend was still with the people who had stabbed him and hit him with a baseball bat.

Magistrates, after reading a probation report on Borges, handed him a 12-month community order to include 20 rehabilitation days.

He must pay £100 compensation to the police officer, a £153 fine and a £95 surcharge.
