We all hate the polystyrene 'noodles' that many of our items come packed in.

Now Rookley-based Betapak has invested in new technology to provide island businesses with a locally manufactured, sustainable alternative that helps them reduce cost and their carbon footprint.

Betapak also hopes EcoFillPak will drive eco-friendly customer loyalty.

The business says while businesses and their customers want products shipped safely, they don’t want to grapple with the issue of packaging waste to achieve that.

Betapak has invested in the specialist equipment that allows it to now manufacture the  extremely eco-friendly product made completely from starch, is lighter, water-soluble and 100% compostable.

Jon Carter, managing director of BetaPak, said: “This investment has been made specifically with the aim of eliminating all plastics from our extensive packing lines, making a positive impact on the planet while still providing the best packing experience for customers to ensure their products arrive safely to their customers.”

The company’s commitment to the environment also ensures the new machine is powered from the 77 solar panels on the roof of its offices and warehouse.

Orders are also delivered from its growing number of electric vans.

Jon Carter said: “EcoFillPak is a highly practical solution for loose fill that any business can change to now.

"It is also lighter, reducing weight and delivery cost, saving businesses money while also reducing their carbon footprint.

"Buying from us as a local manufacturer further reduces transport cost and delivery miles in addition to supporting the Isle of Wight economy.”

This latest investment from Betapak is one more example of the steps being made by many island businesses to protect the environment and develop a more sustainable future for all.
