World Cocktail Day is a global celebration of cocktails, inviting everyone to try something new and perhaps a little exotic, which residents at Newport’s Orchard House certainly did.

Mixologist Connor Seddon, who is the bar manager at the Brunswick Hotel in Shanklin, visited the residents and gave them a demonstration of his cocktail making skills.

He amazed them all with his bottle-throwing and catching and wowed them with his use of a flame torch to make the herbs in the drink just right.

Residents got to sample two cocktails, a Bramble, a gin-based cocktail coloured bright red, and a Caramel Saltini, a coffee liqueur and Bailey’s based cocktail.

Kim Fleming, general manager at Orchard House, said: “Everyone had so much fun today trying the different cocktails and were so impressed with the bottle-throwing. We thank Connor for giving up his time to show us how wonderful cocktails can be.”

Elizabeth, a resident, said: “It was absolutely amazing to watch how the cocktails were made. His bottle throwing was so good he should be on the stage."
