A WELL-KNOWN eco-campaigner on the Isle of Wight accused of driving a car at and injuring a car boot sale traffic marshal near Sandown Airport, will stand trial later this year.

Garry Oates, of Fort Street, Sandown, denied dangerous driving, at the S57 bridleway, near Shanklin, and inflicting assault occasioning actual bodily harm, against Mark Patterson, on June 26 last year.

He gave his not guilty pleas at the Isle of Wight Crown Court this morning (Tuesday).

Mr Oates runs clean seas campaign group Blue Seas Protection.

The 62-year-old was bailed to reappear for trial at the same venue, on the week commencing November 28.

The trial is predicted to last four days.
