DID you spot a legion of red and white Citroens 2cvs on the Island earlier this month?

After nearly a 100-mile drive, Citroen 2cv Adventures, which organises driving tours from its base near Alton in East Hampshire, arrived in Yarmouth on Tuesday, May 3.

Two clients, John and Amanda, invited 24 of their friends (with 14 Citroens) to join them on a two-day tour, driving the wonderfully little cars and staying in the Lakeside Park Hotel in Wootton.

2cv Adventures organised a route around the Island’s countryside, with all the cars equipped with a Brantz rally trip meter and with the aid of a tulip roadbook and waypoints, the drivers were directed and led along the same route across the Island.

On several occasions, cars took wrong turns, but it did not take long to find their way back onto the route.

Two mechanics in two support vehicles followed the cars in case of a breakdown, and a spare car was on hand to swap in should it be needed.

From Yarmouth, there was a 50-mile route which took in the West Wight, then doubling back along the south coast, up through Chale, Niton and Nettlecombe, Morton, past the houseboats in Bembridge and through Ryde and Fishbourne.

On Wednesday morning (May 4), the clan set off for the Floating Bridge and meandered around Cowes before taking in more of the coast and countryside and heading to the Fishbourne ferry to return home.

A spokesperson from 2cv Adventures said: “It was a voyage of discovery for most of the participants, and they all loved it.

“There was a picture quiz challenge on the way around the Island, and the drivers and navigators had to locate and indicate where they saw them.

“It was a great adventure for all, and as always, the Isle of Wight were great hosts!”
