A MOTORCYCLIST has been banned from the roads for three years after drug driving, going through a red light and colliding with a car.

Ryan Bell, 23, admitted riding his Honda MSX with a cocaine derivative in his blood, at Yarbridge Cross in Brading on February 28, when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on Friday.

Bell was ten times the permitted cocaine limit.

Bell, of Sandham Close, Sandown, went through a red light and collided with a Suzuki Swift, explained Graham Heath, prosecuting.

He said Bell had "a number of previous convictions" including a two-year disqualification for drug driving in 2018.

Oscar Vincent, for Bell, said Bell admitted consuming cocaine at a party on the Friday, three days before the crash on Monday evening.

He tested negative for alcohol.

He said Bell worked for a specialist company, was an exemplary employee and had a supportive employer.

Due to it being his second drug drive offence, magistrates imposed the mandatory three year ban.

They handed him a two month custodial sentence, suspended for 12 months, and ordered him to undertake 60 hours of unpaid work.

He must pay court costs of £85 and a £128 surcharge.
