NEWPORT'S biggest free community event is back this Saturday.

Riverfest is taking place at the Quay and will be run for the first time by Newport Carnival and Community Events Association.

The event originally launched in 2008 by the Isle of Wight Council and was taken over by The Footprint Trust in 2010, attracting 4,000 people annually.

This year, the event starts with a Pirates' Parade from St Thomas Square at 9.50am, reaching the Quay at 10am.

Among the entertainment is magic by David Randini, music from Medina Marching Band and Vectis Corp of Drums, Irish dancing, and a raffle.

There will be stalls and a wide range of entertainment.

Anyone dressed as a pirate is in with a chance of winning a prize.
