ISLE of Wight Police officers met with Roads Policing Unit colleagues from the mainland yesterday (Monday), and caught a number of motorists speeding in Shalfleet.

After some training on speed enforcement and the use of a laser gun, officers headed out on the A3054.

In just an hour, they caught seven drivers speeding, exceeding the 30mph speed limit.

"One of these was clocked at 47mph," said a spokesperson for Isle of Wight Police.

"They were all given a ticket, which is called a TOR.

"The drivers can expect either a fixed penalty notice or a speed awareness course.

"More and more officers are being trained in speed enforcement equipment and other methods to deal with defective vehicles."

"We will also be looking for loud exhausts, and for anyone who has removed the baffle on their car.

"Another thing we will be looking for is BSI Kitemarks on various after-market parts, exhausts, lights and the like.

"Please make sure your vehicle is road legal."
